A Blast From Christmas Past: Gilmore Car Museum’s A Winter Wonderland

Located off M-43 in between Hastings and Kalamazoo, Michigan is The Gilmore Car Museum. It’s home to the new Winter Wonderland Attraction that takes you back through Christmas’ past to give you a true Christmas present!

This was their first year doing the Winter Wonderland and it looks like the response has been great. Sounds like they might continue to make it a yearly thing.

Winter Wonderland is fun for all ages. Hands on exhibits like reindeer games keep the little ones busy while the nostalgia of Christmas past keeps adults attention.

Christmas Through the Decades

Some of our favorite exhibits include the Christmas Through the Decades Exhibit, the Giant Inflatable Maze with LED reindeer display and and the musical Gingerbread Display. There’s several photo opportunities available. Make sure you don’t miss the Back to The Future car.

Food and beverages are available for purchase. The indoor dining area is open and various stations outside are set up to serve food. There’s also a bar with adult beverages. The food and drinks are pricey. Drinking hot cocoa inside a retro diner is a pretty neat experience though.

There’s three parts to the Winter Wonderland Attractions: indoor, outdoor walking area and drive through lights. The inside of the museum features classic cars and the Festival of Trees and a visit from Santa. You’ll need a coat and gloves for the outdoor walking area. Don’t skip this part! The outdoor driving tour through features colorful lights, decorations and festive music.

Plan on staying for more than an hour. There’s lots to see. To get the ultimate experience make sure you take one of their older cars through the drive though part. Experience the lights while riding in one of the museum’s vintage cars from their collection. We rode in a 1960’s vehicle and it was magical.

Admission is $20 at the door, however, if you purchase your tickets ahead of time you can save a couple bucks. You can purchase tickets online here. I honestly didn’t think it would be worth the $20 at first but it ended up being worth the money. You’ll still have to pay the admission fee if you only want to drive through the lights.

Gilmore’s A Winter Wonderland will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. It runs from November 24th through January 9th. Wednesday through Sunday.
