5 Powerful New Year’s Resolutions To Make This Year

I have a confession to make. I have not made a single New Year’s resolution in over 10 years. I chose to make several resolutions this year, however. I want to grow as person and be a kind human being. I want to keep in touch with my family. I also want to be more productive.

I’m sharing my resolutions today. Here’s 5 powerful New Years resolutions to make AND KEEP for yourself this year.

Treat others the way you want to be treated. This one is so simple but yet so hard for people to follow through on sometimes. We get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and when something doesn’t go our way, we tend to get frustrated and angry. Lets remember to be kind to everyone, even the people we meet in passing. Unkind words can really sting. Matthew 7:12 states, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” Let us all strive for kindness this year.

Read a book a month. Reading has so many benefits. It increases your knowledge and helps with concentration and memory skills. You even improve your vocabulary when you pick up a book. It’s always a mood booster for me personally. I can escape to a whole new world if I’m having a rough day. Make a plan. You can be really ambitious and try and read once a week or try to read a book a month. That boils down to 12 books in 2022!

Spend less time on social media. I can hear the groans for this one. But really this one is important. How much time do you lose a day scrolling endlessly through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok? Is there other things you could be doing that would make your day more productive? Read a book, get some cleaning done, learn a new hobby, spend time with family.

Don’t bring your phone into your room at night. Set your phone down on the table before going to bed. Spend this time to connect with your significant other if you have one. Talk about your day. Share your wins, gains and your frustrations. I find as soon as I put my phone down I have so much to talk about with my husband and kids. Putting your phone down at night is also important for sleep. Technology really interferes with the ability to get a good night’s z.

Stay connected to family. Family means everything to me and I’m sure it means a lot to the person reading this as well. You never know when something might happen to the ones we love. Call your grandpa, text your mom, and go visit your family members. Video chat with family that doesn’t live nearby. Set a goal whether it’s daily, weekly or monthly to check in with each other.
