My cousin shared a Facebook post the other day expressing frustration over not being able to find the right hair care products. After hearing this and seeing others express similar concerns over curly hair I thought I’d share my own personal hair care routine with you all.
My hair care routine comes with a lot of trial and error over the years. I get a lot of compliments and questions about my long locks. Here’s what I do to keep them healthy, soft and frizz-free.
My Hair Type:
I have very long, thick, curly hair. Curly hair can sometimes be hard to manage and there’s several do and don’t that come with it. I’ll save that for another day, though.
How I Take Care Of My Hair:
I wash my hair once or twice a week and I only brush it on hair washing days.
After washing, I leave conditioner on for 5 minutes in the shower. I brush it with the conditioner still on it, rinse and gently towel dry. Towels can make your hair super frizzy if you’re not careful. Ring out your hair first, then blot it to get the excess water out. Don’t rub it or be harsh with the towel.
After I get out of the shower I use a leave in conditioner on my hair. Don’t skip this one. A leave in is very important for curly hair. I finish with either a gel or cream.
I let my hair air dry only. Heat reeks havoc on curly hair so avoid using it whenever possible. I will straighten it only on special occasions.
Silk keeps the frizzies at bay during the night time. You can wear a silk scarf to bed or use a silk pillowcase. I roll around a lot so I choose the pillowcase option because scarfs always fall off my head in the middle of the night.
Hair Products I Use:
Shampoo and Conditioner- Artnaturals Moroccan Argan shampoo and conditioner. Argan oil does wonders for hair.
Leave In Conditioner- Hask Biotin Boost 5-in 1 Leave-In Spray. Multi-benefit leave in conditioner with a boost of biotin.
Leave In Conditioner- It’s a 10 Haircare Miracle Leave-In product. This is an awesome leave in that does it all.
Gels and Creams: Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Frizz Control Sculpting Gel and Defining Cream. I mix the gel and cream together to create the ultimate combo.
And that’s about it. Do you have any curly hair tips to add? What are your favorite products to use? Shoot me a message in the comment section below.
